Bacon:
1) The word idol, to Bacon, meant phantoms or illusions. It is a good word to use because it represents the tinys things that represented the people of that time.
2) The Idols of the Tribe represent the true human nature and The Idols of the Cave represent how the walls of the cave will change the true nature of things. Not one Idol is more important than the other because they all rely on each other to represent everyone.
3) Intercourse is represented by Idols of the Marketplace and Individual reflection is represented by Idols of the Cave. No because the Idols give freedom. He would be more free the more he socialized.
Darwin:
1) Survival of the fittest means that the strongest, most capable individuals will survive and the weaker individuals that can not support themselves will die off. Examples are if unattractive individuals in any species are unable to reproduce then the ugly ones will die off, leaving only attractive individuals to reproduce and create a more attractive society.
2) Breeding is more direct. Natural selection is more chance. Breeding is more efficient. Natural selection is more important.
3) Cloning goes against Darwin's view because it is duplicating an individual whether they are fit to survive on their own or not. Cloning does undo natural selection because there is not supposed to be the same individual twice.
4) Human social policy ensures that the smartest and hardest working individuals will be the most well off, however the ones that cannot do this are protected from dieing off because of the social policies in place. Yes because they ensure everyone lives, healthy or not and make the human species as a whole less fit and less successful.

Plato:
1) Sensory knowledge is not as unreliable as Plato believes. He believes that it leads to ignorance and destructive social consequences. This can be true in some cases and sometimes the logical path is more reliable, however, listening to one's senses and gut feeling will lead to a better decision more times than not.
2) Yes because everyone will have a different gut feeling and this leads to heated discussions about what is a right move and what is a wrong move. An alternative would be to put a logical viewpoint into the mixture and have both sides evaluate that with their sense feeling.
3) The world would be very opinionated because everyone has a different sense feeling and sometimes does need a logical point of view to even the playing field.
4) Feeling in one's gut when a decision you made will lead to good or bad things.
Freud:
1) Yes because my dreams are usually events that I either want to happen or something that I fear will happen.
2) The ones that seem far fetched, then end up happening.
3) The dreams that frighten me are the ones where you feel like you fall and then jerk awake in your sleep with a racing heart.
4) They forget them because they happen and then a bunch of time passes before they have time to say them and remember them. I can usually remember my dreams if they happen close to when I wake up.
5) Yes because it happens in the brain, however it cannot be controlled.

1) Woolf constantly refers to woman in her essay from multiple perspectives. She talks about them being slaves of the men, but also talks of the educated ones attending universities.
2) It reveals that even women with brains and wits were not able to contribute in all these significant events.
3) The most important changes would be things like men showing respect for women and listening to what they had to say. It would also be letting them think for themselves and not be told everything to do. Talent can make her situation more difficult because she has skills but they are going to waste because the guys would not allow them to be shown.

1) Men: dominance, bravery and aggressiveness
Women: objectivity and malleability
2) They lose diversity and the ability to get the most points of view in order to make the best decision for the masses.
3) The opposite sex has to pick up where the other sex slacks, leaving holes where an individual may not be able to provide.
4) They should be aware of them so that we do not make the same mistakes today, that we have made in the past.

1) Pernicious effects is defined in this essay as women that get too much money get neglectful of of their child and pass them off to a babysitter. They need to be financially stable without the help of a man.
2) No because women with property, according to the essay, get selfish when they have money and property and women without that are more compassionate.
3) It causes them to be more reliant on men to provide for them, but if they were given more freedom then we would find out they could be great partners and friends in life.
4) Jonathan Kozol believed in diversified schools in order to obtain a better education. The diversity would expose the students to more and encourage them to learn from each other, not only about what is going on in class, but about the culture that comes from a diverse school system.
5) Woodson means that in the "Negro" school systems, they are not teaching about the history of the "Negros". They teach them about the Hebrews, the Greek, the Latin and the Teuton, but hardly any schools educated them about their own culture.

1) The basis of scientific pedagogy for Montessori is based on the observations of kids from the time they are young into adulthood.
2) The furniture is meant to promote independent thinking, freedom within reason, but establish order as well.
3) Freedom will have a good effect on a child, as long as it is reasonable and does not harm others.
4) "Thinking in education" simply means to use critical thinking in order to figure something out. Hands on experience is the best way to make this last.
5) The lessons need to appeal to the students and hands on activities are also necessary.
6)Dewey supports experience and hand on activities, as well as interesting lessons and problem solving and observation skills present.

1) Smith thought like a capitalist and thought that measuring a nations wealth based on what that country could produce, Known today as GDP, rather than the amount of gold or silver they had. This makes sense because If a country has poor living quality for its citizens, but a lot of gold, then that would be a false representation of the true wealth of that country. He explains how a small town can benefit the country and how that can both hurt or help that small town. This makes sense because this is how nations grow, through the small things that will add up over time.
2) Today, a secure investment would be a nice home to properly represent ones wealth. Land can still represent wealth, just not as common as back then. A home is something that one will show off to represent wealth. It can also be used to boast about how much money one is making.
3) Attention should first be focused on agriculture because that is the fuel for most citizens and one cannot have manufacturing without a steady food supply. However, I believe that in today's society, being a farmer is becoming less and less desirable and more attention is being focused towards manufacturing. This is because there is more benefits like healthcare when you work for someone else, rather than on a farm.

1) From my experiences, America is both wealthy and poor, it is up to the people make a life for themselves. There are many examples of affluence, such as solid school systems and many businesses that people have started. Things that quality as affluence are nice homes, successful businesses, quality roadways, good public schools and proper public safety. Results of affluence are a happy society that for the most part gets along and can resolve conflicts peacefully.
2) The government should be there as a back up plan for people. They should not totally rely on the government for support because then there would not be enough people paying taxes and the government would run out of money and then everyone would be out of luck. The government should be there simply as a cushion to get people back on their feet in the case of one losing their job or something of that nature.

1) The economic condition of the bourgeoisie is the preservation of property and the value of the citizens property. The economic condition of the proletariat is to own little to no property and everyone is equal. I believe in the bourgeoisie because it seems to lean more toward individual rights and not as controlling.
2) The Expanding world for market good is diminishing national identity because different cultures are merging more than every before. People are being exposed to more and and merging because of it.
3) Marx expects that everyone will be treated the same, no matter what. In theory this would work perfectly, but reality is a different story. Everyone has their own work ethic and there will always be somebody working harder than the next guy and if they got paid the same, like in Marx's theory, the harder worker would start slacking and nothing would get done.
I do not think that wealthy people should follow Carnegie's example because I believe that everything should be earned and nothing given. Some money should be there to get people a head start, but it in no way should be a long term deal. If people do not earn wealth, then they do not learn anything. I believe Bill Gates actions will close the gap, but it is up to the people to earn their wealth and make themselves a success.

1) Aristotle would respond well to the painting because the painting seems to show men voting and not one person making all the decisions. Aristotle wanted everyone to be satisfied and although he was aware this is impossible, he believed that more people voting on laws would be better.
2) Government is present in the painting because everyone is voting or voicing their opinion. The men in the painting are also educated because of the circumstances and because of how they are dressed.
3) He would assume is was an oligarchy because it seems to be a small number of educated and wealthy individuals. It does not represent the common man and there are relatively not that many people in the painting.
4) They represented the elements well, because there were men from all over to give input. However, it was only the wealthy individuals so society could have been represents better, but I believe less would have been accomplished.
5) For the most part, Aristotle and Tocqueville would agree on a lot of the issues in society. An example of this is equality. They both believed that a successful democracy needed equality in order to be happy. They also believed in a true democracy in order to make sure everyone was represented.

1) Martin Luther King Jr. and Thoreau had very close beliefs because they both believed in protesting if one is not satisfied with the government and they both also believed in nonviolent protesting. King did read Thoreau's "Civil Disobedience" because King's actions mirrored those that Thoreau wrote about. These two writers opinions and views would be pretty close as far as treating every man as an equal. Thoreau believed that there was injustice in the government and when this happened it was up to the people to let the government run itself down and then change it from there. King also saw injustice in the government but in his case it was against his own race. Both men realized that there was injustice going on and both were imprisoned for it.
2) Cicero believed that hurting another individual, except when provoked, was not okay and should be avoided. He also believed that steeling was wrong and believes it "violates the law of human fellowship". Cicero also believed that if you witness one of these bad acts and did nothing, that was injustice as well. He also believed that we treat our opponent with respect and no trickery. I agree with Cicero because it is similar to the rights that everyone should get: life, liberty, and the persuit of happiness.
